Gianna Boccagno

Arizona State University '23

Hometown: Coral Springs, Florida

Playing for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Personal: Boccagno is the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Boccagno and has a younger brother named Tommy. She earned a bachelor's degree in business from Boston College and a master's degree in communications from Arizona State. In her free time, she enjoys going to the beach, playing pickleball, cooking, and spending time with friends. She credits former Boston College assistant coach Olivia Watkins as someone who has made a difference in her life. Outside of softball, Boccagno competed in soccer and bowling during her high school career. Her walk-up songs are "Transportin" by Kodak Black and "I Feel Good" by Pitbull. She chose to wear the number 64 because it represents the total of the three jersey numbers she has worn throughout her career.

At Arizona State: Boccagno played for Arizona State after spending four years at Boston College. In her lone season with the Sun Devils, she started 26 out of 29 games. She had a batting average of .190 and hit two home runs while driving in six runs. Defensively, she had a .962 fielding percentage with six errors in 157 total chances. One of her standout performances came on February 24, 2023, against Iowa State, where she drove in four runs, including a three-run home run.

At Boston College: Throughout her four seasons at Boston College, Boccagno started in 145 out of 155 games. She hit a total of 22 home runs and drove in 58 runs. Her best season was as a freshman in 2019 when she hit eight home runs. In her senior season, she played in 40 games, starting 32 of them, and led the team with seven home runs and 15 runs batted in. During her junior season, she hit four home runs and had 11 RBIs. Boccagno also excelled defensively, throwing out 16 potential base runners, leading the Atlantic Coast Conference. In her sophomore season, which was cut short due to COVID-19, she hit three home runs and started in 20 out of 21 games. She began her college career by starting in 50 games, primarily as a catcher but also at third base, hitting eight home runs and driving in 24 runs.

a pretty good week for the Talons if you ask us 💅🏆

@sephora surprised all of the AUSL athletes with gift bags in their lockers during the final week of the regular season. after the surprise, the Talons went on to win the first-ever AUSL Championship presented by Sephora 🍾
while there are a lot of similarities between baseball and softball, there are some big differences too ⚾️🥎
